Gu Kaizhi (chinesisch 顧愷之 / 顾恺之, Pinyin Gù Kǎizhī, W.-G. Ku K'ai-chih; * 344; † 405) war ein chinesischer Maler, dessen Bildrolle Ermahnung der Hofdamen das älteste Gemälde mit einer Signatur ist. Historischen Aufzeichnungen zufolge wurde er in Wuxi (Provinz Jiangsu) geboren und hat das erste Mal in Nanjing im Jahr 364 gemalt.

Im Jahre 366 wurde Gu Kaizhi Offizier (Da Sima Canjun). Später wurde er zum königlichen Offizier befördert (Sanji Changshi).

Er war ebenfalls talentierter Dichter und Kalligraph. Er schrieb drei Bücher über die Kunst der Malerei:

Gu Kaizhi schrieb: „In der Figurenmalerei sind Kleidung und Erscheinung nicht besonders wichtig. Die Augen sind die Seele und der entscheidende Faktor.“

Gu Kaizhi (simplified Chinese: 顾恺之; traditional Chinese: 顧愷之; pinyin: Gù Kǎizhī; Wade–Giles: Ku K'ai-chih; c. 344–406), courtesy name Changkang (長康), was a Chinese painter and politician. He was a celebrated painter of ancient China.[1] He was born in Wuxi and first painted at Nanjing in 364. In 366, he became an officer (Da Sima Canjun or Assistant to the Minister of Defense, 大司馬參軍). Later he was promoted to royal officer (Sanji Changshi or Gentleman in Waiting to the Emperor, 散騎常侍). He was also a talented poet and calligrapher. He wrote three books about painting theory: On Painting (畫論), Introduction of Famous Paintings of Wei and Jin Dynasties (魏晉勝流畫贊) and Painting Yuntai Mountain (畫雲台山記). He wrote: "In figure paintings the clothes and the appearances were not very important. The eyes were the spirit and the decisive factor."[1]

Gu Kaizhi 顾恺之 ou Kou K'ai-Tche ou Ku K'ai-Chih, surnom: Changkang 长康, nom de pinceau: Hutou, né vers 345 à Wuxi (province du Jiangsu) est mort vers 406 : l'un des peintres chinois les plus célèbres et l'artiste majeur de l'art chinois au IVe siècle. Connu pour ses portraits réalistes, il est considéré comme le premier grand peintre sur rouleau, alors qu'auparavant les grands peintres exécutaient des peintures murales essentiellement. Il vécut sous la dynastie des Jin orientaux (265-420), au Sud de la Chine. Peintre et poète, il est aussi l'auteur d'un des premiers traités sur la peinture, les Notes sur la peinture du mont de la Terrasse des nuages (画云台山记), qu'on lie à la naissance de la peinture de paysage.
