Frank Montague Moore (1877–1967) was a painter and the first director of the Honolulu Museum of Art.[1] He was born November 24, 1877 in Taunton, England, and studied at the Liverpool Art School and the Royal Institute. He immigrated to the United States and took additional painting lessons from Henry Ward Ranger. In 1910, he moved from New York City to Hawaii, where he worked as a purchasing agent for Hawaii Plantations.[2] He became the first director of the Honolulu Museum of Art in 1924, but resigned in 1927, shortly before the museum opened.[3] In 1928, he left Hawaii for California, where he painted 41 murals collectively known as the Picture Bridge for the Huntington Hotel in Pasadena and many easel paintings of California landscapes.[4] Moore died in Carmel, California on March 5, 1967.[5]

The Auckland War Memorial Museum and the Honolulu Museum of Art are among the public collections holding paintings by Frank Montague Moore.[6]

Frank Montague Moore est un peintre et le premier directeur de l'Honolulu Museum of Art[1]. Il est né le 14 novembre 1877 à Taunton, en Angleterre, et a étudié à la Liverpool Art School et au Royal Institute. Il a émigré aux États-Unis et pris d'autres leçons de peinture de Henry Ward Ranger. En 1910, il travaille comme acheteur pour Hawaii Plantations[2]. Il devient le premier directeur de l'Honolulu Museum of Art en 1924, mais démissionne en 1927, peu avant l'ouverture du musée[1]. En 1928, il quitte Hawaï pour la Californie, où il peint 41 murales intitulées collectivement Picture Bridge pour l'hôtel Huntington (en) à Pasadena et de nombreuses peintures de chevalet représentant des paysages californiens[3]. Moore est mort à Carmel-by-the-Sea (Californie) le 5 mars 1967[2].
