Kid Chan (born 15 January 1978 in Kuala Lumpur) is a wedding photojournalist,[3] portrait and celebrity photographer from Malaysia.[4][5][6] Some notable personalities photographed by Chan include Zeti Akhtar Aziz, the governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, barrister Cherie Blair, actor Jackie Chan, businessman Francis Yeoh, model Elle Macpherson, and designer Jimmy Choo.

Raised in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, Chan attended the Sri Cempaka school before pursuing a degree in international business from the Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia.[5] He began working in the corporate world as an executive assistant before taking up photography as his exclusive job. After two years in his position, Kid Chan left his position behind to take up an apprenticeship at a photography studio[7] under T S Lim, of Studio 88.[8]
In 2000, through a management buyout, he took over a company called Portrait One. The company was later renamed "Kid Chan Studio".[7] In the beginning, Chan concentrated on corporate photography and photographed his clients' children's weddings.[3] He has since then photographed multiple other royalty, politicians, artists and celebrities.[5]
Chan has photographed numerous celebrities, and was also the photographer for the weddings of well-known Asian celebrities like Paula Malai Ali and Tengku Kudin, and Siti Nurhaliza and Khalid Jiwa.[3] He was also the official photographer for the Royal wedding of Tengku Aslahuddin Jaa'far and Sofia Erica Lane, and was featured in the cover of Harper's Bazaar as well.[9] Other people he has photographed include Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Cherie Blair, Jackie Chan,[8] Elle Macpherson, Jimmy Choo,[10][third-party source needed] and Francis Yeoh for the cover of Millionaireasia.[11]
In a photography competition organised by History Channel in 2009, a photography session worth RM10,000 with Chan was deemed to be the grand prize.[12] In 2010, his photo collection of three cancer survivors and their families was exhibited in 50 Courts Malaysia's stores nationwide as part of an exhibition to raise funds for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) through its "Hope for Our Children" campaign.[13] In the same year, he also photographed the shooting of Britain's Next Top Model Cycle 6 in episode 11, which was filmed in Kuala Lumpur.[10] In 2012, he was appointed the ambassador for MenCare.[14] [15]
In 2013, Chan published the book Kid Chan's Guide to the Business of Photography (MPH, 2013), which covers setting up a photography business from a Malaysian perspective.[16] Additionally, the book held the top spot in the bestsellers list for the non-fiction category till 16 June 2013 and maintained its position till the end of the month.[17] [18]
Chan was also the first Malaysian to be accepted as a member of the US based Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA),[3] and was named by Malaysian Tatler as "one of the 100 people you must know in Asia" in 2006.[3][19] In the same year, Le Prestige magazine named him in their "Top 40 under 40" list.[20] The media often refers to him as "one of Malaysia's most sought-after wedding photographers".[21][22]
In 2008, Tiger Tales, the official magazine of Tiger Airways, mentioned him in their "annual list of trail-blazers across Asia and Australia".[23] In the same year, he was also named one of Malaysia's most influential youth entrepreneurs under 30 by Youth Entrepreneur.[24] In 2011, Glam, a Malaysian magazine, cited Chan's extensive knowledge of Malay wedding culture and protocol.[25] In 2012, he was the only Asian photographer to be listed in Conde Nast's Brides UK's "Top 20 Extremely Talented Destination Wedding Photographers in the World".[26]
Chan is married to Shirlyn Lim, a chartered accountant,[20] and they have two daughters Faith and Adira, and a son, Joshua.[20][5][8]
