Wouter Abts (in French, Gautier Abts) was born at Lier, near Antwerp, possibly in 1582.[1] He was a pupil of Willem de Vos (Guillaume de Vos in French).[2] Little is known about his life.[3] He was admitted as a master to the Guild at Antwerp in 1604–5; and he died in 1642–43. He mainly painted genre pieces, but a winter landscape has been attributed to him.[4] He taught Adrian de Bie and Lenaert Coomans.[5]

Wautier Abts[1] ou Gautier Abts[2] (en néerlandais : Wouter Abts)[note 1], est un peintre né à Lierre, près d'Anvers, peut-être en 1582[4]. Il fut l'élève de Guillaume de Vos[2]. On sait peu de choses sur sa vie[5]. Il fut inscrit à la Guilde de Saint-Luc en 1594[1] Il fut admis comme maître à la Guilde d'Anvers en 1604-5; et il mourut en 1642-43. Il peint principalement des pièces de genre, mais un paysage hivernal lui a été attribué[3]. Il a enseigné à Adrian de Bie[6] et Léonard Coymans[1]
