Conrad Soest,, Conrad von Soest,, y también Konrad, en el alemán bajo medio de su tierra natal originariamente Conrad van Sost, (* h. 1370 en Dortmund - † después de 1422 en Dortmund) fue un pintor alemán y maestro en Westfalia del llamado estilo suave dentro del gótico internacional. Su obra tuvo gran influencia en la pintura alemana del siglo XV.

Vida

Entre la documentación que se conserva de su vida se encuentra el contrato matrimonial ante testigos de fecha 11 de febrero de 1394, documento que atestigua el matrimonio entre "Conrade van Soest" y Gertrude, hija de "Lambertes van Munster". En él actúan como testigos destacados patricios de Dortmund, lo que ha dado lugar a suponer una posible preeminencia social del pintor.

Obras

Su obra está influida por los miniaturistas franceses y la pintura borgoñona de la época.

• Altar en la Iglesia Evangelista en Bad Wildungen, h. 1403 (con la más antigua representación de unas gafas al norte de los Alpes) ,
• Altar portátil de la familia Berswordt de Dortmund con una representación de Reinoldus como Caballero, 1404, Alte Pinakothek, Múnich
• Altar de María en la Marienkirche en Dortmund, h. 1420,
• Altar de san Nicolás para la capilla de San Nicolás en Soest (atribuido), Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Münster.

Desde 1954 la Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe dota con 12.800 euros el Premio Konrad-von-Soest para las Artes visuales y diseño.

Conrad von Soest, auch Konrad, in der mittelniederdeutschen Sprache seiner Heimat ursprünglich Conrad van Sost, (* um 1370 in Dortmund;[1] † nach 1422 ebenda) war ein Maler und Hauptmeister der westfälischen Tafelmalerei des sogenannten weichen Stils der Spätgotik. Dem Maler kommt eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Einführung des Internationalen Höfischen Stils um 1440 in Norddeutschland zu. Sein Werk hatte weitreichende Wirkungen auf die deutsche Malerei des 15. Jahrhunderts.

Conrad von Soest, also Konrad in modern texts, or in Middle High German Conrad van Sost or "von Soyst", (born around 1370 in Dortmund;[1] died soon after 1422) was the most significant Westphalian artist and painted in the so-called soft style of International Gothic. He played a leading role in the introduction of this International Courtly Style to Northern Germany around 1390 and influenced German and Northern European painting into the late 15th century.[2] He was the master of a thriving workshop and was accepted into the social circle of the cosmopolitan patrician elite of Dortmund. Dortmund was then a leading and very prosperous member of the influential Hanseatic League.[3]
