Biographie
Haydon s'installe à Londres à 18 ans et y devient élève de Johann Heinrich Füssli ainsi que l'ami de David Wilkie. Il étudie les marbres du Parthénon et visite la France en 1814. Entrant en désaccord perpétuel avec les peintres de son époque, il s'endette fortement et se résout à la mendicité auprès des grands seigneurs. Il donne aussi des cours mais finit sa vie dans la misère[1].

Benjamin Robert Haydon (/ˈheɪdən/; 26 January 1786 – 22 June 1846) was a British painter who specialised in grand historical pictures, although he also painted a few contemporary subjects and portraits. His commercial success was damaged by his often tactless dealings with patrons, and by the enormous scale on which he preferred to work. He was troubled by financial problems throughout his life, which led to several periods of imprisonment for debt. He died by suicide in 1846.[es] Benjamin Haydon

Su éxito comercial se vio perjudicado por su falta de tacto con los clientes y por la escala enorme de los cuadros que creaba.
