Chris Van Allsburg, né le 18 juin 1949 à Grand Rapids dans le Michigan, est un auteur et illustrateur américain de livre pour enfants.

Biographie

Chris Van Allsburg a été deux fois récompensé de la médaille Caldecott, pour ses livres Jumanji en 1982, et Boréal-express en 1986, qu'il écrivit et illustra et qui furent adaptés au cinéma. Il reçut par ailleurs la médaille Caldecott d'honneur en 1980 pour son livre Le Jardin d'Abdul Gasazi.

À noter la présence dans chaque album d'un fox-terrier blanc avec une tache noire sur un œil. Ce chien est un véritable personnage dans Le Jardin d'Abdul Gasazi, mais n'apparaît que par incidence dans les autres ouvrages. Parfois, ce n'est même pas un animal, mais un jouet.

Chris Van Allsburg (* 18. Juni 1949 in Grand Rapids, Michigan) ist ein US-amerikanischer Zeichner und Schriftsteller von Kinderbüchern. Er gewann die Caldecott Medaille für seine Bücher Jumanji (1982) und Der Polarexpress (1985); neben dem Text stammen auch die Bebilderungen von ihm. Beide wurden später erfolgreich in Kinofilme umgesetzt.

Chris Van Allsburg (born June 18, 1949) is an American illustrator and writer of children's books. He has won two Caldecott Medals for U.S. picture book illustration, for Jumanji (1981) and The Polar Express (1985), both of which he also wrote; both were later adapted as successful motion pictures. He was also a Caldecott runner-up in 1980 for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi.[1][2] For his contribution as a children's illustrator, he was a 1986 U.S. nominee for the biennial International Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest international recognition for creators of children's books.[3] He received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Michigan in April 2012.
