Lucas Horenbout, souvent appelé Hornebolte, (Gand, vers 1490-1495 - Londres, 1544) est un artiste flamand.

Biographie

Lucas Horenbout est le fils et l'élève de l'enlumineur ganto-brugeois Gerard Horenbout[1].

Il se rend en Angleterre dans les années 1520 et y travaille en tant que « Peintre du Roi » et miniaturiste à la cour d'Henri VIII de 1525 à sa mort. Son style s'apparente à la dernière phase de l'enluminure flamande, dans laquelle son père Gerard Horenbout a été une figure importante. Il est le fondateur de la tradition du portrait miniature, particulière à l'Angleterre.

Lucas Horenbout, often called Hornebolte in England (c. 1490/1495–1544), was a Flemish artist who moved to England in the mid-1520s and worked there as "King's Painter" and court miniaturist to King Henry VIII from 1525 until his death. He was trained in the final phase of Netherlandish illuminated manuscript painting, in which his father Gerard was an important figure, and was the founding painter of the long and distinct English tradition of portrait miniature painting. He has been suggested as the Master of the Cast Shadow Workshop, who produced royal portraits on panel in the 1520s or 1530s.

Lucas Horenbout, spesso chiamato Hornebolte in Inghilterra (Gand, 1490–1495[2] – Londra, 1544), è stato un pittore e miniatore fiammingo naturalizzato inglese. Assieme alla sorella Susanna e alla figlia di Simon Bening, Levina Teerlinc, fu l'iniziatore dell'importante tradizione dei ritratti miniati in Inghilterra[3] alla corte di Enrico VIII.
