Biographie
Il est probable qu'il est originaire de Prague ; un retable destiné au couvent cistercien de Vyšší Brod, dont dérive son nom d'artiste, est toujours visible à Prague. Datable du milieu du XIVe siècle, la peinture, dont les panneaux sont maintenant disjoints, représente l'« Enfance du Christ » avec des scènes de la Passion. Elle est exposée dans la partie du couvent de Sainte-Agnès de la Galerie nationale de Prague. Les scènes représentant l'Annonciation, la Nativité, l'Adoration des mages et la Résurrection sont attribuées à la main du maître, tandis que d'autres parties sont considérées comme le produit de son atelier.
Un certain nombre d'autres peintures, dont la Vierge de Kladsko, la Crucifixion de Kaufman (toutes deux conservées à Berlin), la Vierge de Vysehrad et la Vierge de Veveri, sont attribuées au maître sur la base du style.

The Master of Vyšší Brod (also known as the Master of Hohenfurth, from the German name for the town of Vyšší Brod) was an anonymous Bohemian painter active around 1350. It seems likely that he was from Prague originally; an altarpiece for the Cistercian convent of Vyšší Brod, from which his name is derived, may still be seen in Prague. Datable to around 1350, the painting, whose panels are now disbanded, depicts the Infancy of Christ along with scenes from the Passion. It may be seen in the Convent of St. Agnes branch of the National Gallery in Prague. The scenes depicting the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi and the Resurrection are ascribed to the Master's hand, while other portions are believed to be the product of his studio.- [fr] Maître de Vyšší Brod
