Anthony Ausgang, pseudonimo di Anthony Charles Grant Thompson (Trinidad and Tobago, 22 maggio 1959), è un pittore e scrittore trinidadiano che vive e lavora a Los Angeles[1]. Ausgang è uno dei principali artisti associati al movimento della Lowbrow art[2][3][4], a cui aderì fin dalla prima ondata degli anni '80[5]. I protagonisti dei suoi dipinti sono i gatti [7] - "psichedelici, occhi spalancati, con una specie di sguardo malvagio negli occhi"[6]

Biografia

Ha studiato all'Otis Art Institute di Los Angeles[7]. Nel 1990, Ausgang fece la sua prima mostra personale alla 01 Gallery di Hollywood[8]. Tra i luoghi in cui ha esposto ci sono: La Luz de Jesus Gallery, la mostra "Kustom Kulture" del Laguna Art Museum, la Kantor Gallery, la Merry Karnowsky Gallery, la Roq La Rue Gallery[2] LA Municipal Gallery, and Copro Gallery.[9][10], LA Municipal Gallery, la Copro Gallery e la Mondo Bizzarro Gallery. Nel 2009, il lavoro di Ausgang è stato incluso nella mostra Apocalypse Wow! al Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Roma in Italia[11], e alla fine del 2012, Ausgang è stato l'artista internazionale protagonista dello spettacolo Rewind di Bologna in occasione del 50º anniversario della chitarra Fender in Italia[12].

Anthony Ausgang (born Anthony Charles Grant Thompson, May 22, 1959) is an artist and writer born in Pointe-à-Pierre, Trinidad and Tobago[1] in 1959 who lives and works in Los Angeles.[2] Ausgang is a principal painter associated with the Lowbrow art movement,[3][4][5] one of "the first major wave of lowbrow artists" to show in Los Angeles in the early 1980s.[6] The protagonists of his paintings are cats[7] -- "psychedelic, wide eyed, with a kind of evil look in their eyes".[8]
