Delmas Howe (El Paso, 22 ottobre 1935[1]) è un pittore statunitense originario del Texas, oggi residente nella città di Truth or Consequences (Nuovo Messico).

Biografia

Dopo il diploma continuò a studiare, e contemporaneamente a lavorare, alla Wichita State University, poi quattro anni nell'Aeronautica Militare statunitense, un trasferimento nell'East Coast e quindi un lavoro all'Università Yale, ora laureato. Proseguì con vari anni di studio alla Art Students' League e alla School of the Visual Arts di New York mentre lavorava come musicista professionale.

Dopo un ritorno alla costa occidentale ed un prospero studio di design ad Amarillo, Texas, tornò nella città di Truth or Consequences.

Delmas Howe occupa una strana posizione nel mondo artistico americano. Correntemente, egli è probabilmente il più conosciuto artista gay americano - nel senso che è il più conosciuto artista che pone il sentimento omosessuale al centro del proprio lavoro. Un gran numero di uomini gay americani hanno imparato a riconoscere il proprio orientamento sessuale mediante l'osservazione dei suoi dipinti.

Delmas Howe (born October 22, 1935) is an American Painter and muralist whose figurative work depicts mythological and archetypal – sometimes homoerotic – themes in a neoclassical, realist style.[1] . After graduation from high school he progressed through undergraduate work at Wichita State University, then four years in the US Air Force, a move to the East Coast, graduate work at Yale University and several years of classes in NYC at the Art Students League of New York while working as a professional musician. After a return to the West and a successful design studio in Amarillo, Texas he returned to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. His work is in the collections of a number of museums including the Albuquerque Museum where his painting "The Three Graces" from 1978 is on permanent view,[2] the British Museum, Amarillo Art Center, and the New Mexico Museum of Art.[3]
