Matthijs o Mathys Schoevaerdts (Bruxelles, 1665 – 1702 o 1712[1] o 1707) è stato un pittore e disegnatore fiammingo.

Biografia

La data di nascita di quest'artista è incerta: probabilmente nacque tra il 1660 e il 1665[1], essendo divenuto apprendista di Adriaen Frans Boudewijns il 25 giugno[1] 1682[1][2], assieme a Andries Meulebeeck[3]. Nel 1690 entrò a far parte della Corporazione di San Luca di Bruxelles e dal 1692 al 1696 ne divenne decano[1].

Operò principalmente a Bruxelles tra il 1682 ed il 1702, anno a cui risale la sua ultima opera datata[1].

Dipingeva scene di vita quotidiana immerse in paesaggi[1][2], alla stregua del suo maestro e secondo lo stile di Jan Brueghel il Vecchio[2], ma anche marine e soggetti storici[1].

Furono influenzati dal suo stile Johann Graf e Philippe Le Clerc[1].

Mathys Schoevaerdts or Matthijs Schoevaerdts[1] (c. 1665/1667 – after 1702) was a Flemish painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He is known mainly for his landscapes with trees, marines and genre scenes.[2] He started out in the tradition of Jan Brueghel the Elder and later developed towards an Italianate style.[3]
