Michaël Borremans (Geraardsbergen, 1963) è un pittore belga.

Biografia

Borremans ha seguito l'accademia di Sint-Lucas a Bruxelles. All'inizio utilizzò la fotografia, e negli anni novanta si dedicò al disegno e alla pittura. Usa vecchie fotografie di persone e paesaggi come fonte di ispirazione per i suoi soggetti.

La sua opera è stata esposta a Manifesta 5 a San Sebastian. Al Museum für Gegenwartskunst a Basilea, alla Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, allo SMAK (Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst) a Gent, al Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio e al The Royal Hibernian Academy, Gallagher Gallery a Dublino. Nel 2006 espose al Museum of Contemporary Art KIASMA ad Helsinki, alla Biennale di Berlino e alla David Zwirner Gallery di New York.
Nel 2014 ha esposto al Centre For Fine Arts, Bruxelles, Belgio

Michaël Borremans (born 1963) is a Belgian painter and filmmaker who lives and works in Ghent. His painting technique draws on 18th-century art as well as the works of Édouard Manet and Degas. The artist also cites the Spanish court painter Diego Velázquez as an important influence. In recent years, he has been using photographs he has made himself or made-to-order sculptures as the basis for his paintings.[1]
