The Kelpies sind zwei Skulpturen aus rostfreiem Stahl, die jeweils rund 30 m hoch sind. Sie stehen in dem 2013 eröffneten Park The Helix nahe beim Forth and Clyde Canal in Falkirk, Schottland.[1]

Die Skulpturen stellen zwei Kelpien dar, Wassergeister in Pferdegestalt. Damit soll die Bedeutung von Pferden und ihrer Zugkraft zu Beginn der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung der Region ausgedrückt werden. Sie zogen u. a. schwer beladene Wagen, Pflüge und Lastkähne.[2]

The Kelpies sind das Werk des Bildhauers Andy Scott. Jede Skulptur wiegt rund 300 t, sie bestehen jeweils aus einem Stahlgestell, auf dem rund 7000 unterschiedlich geformte, kleine Edelstahlplatten befestigt sind. Die feierliche Einweihung war am 21. April 2014.[3]

The Kelpies are 30-metre-high (98 ft) horse-head sculptures depicting kelpies (shape-shifting water spirits), located between Falkirk and Grangemouth,[1] standing next to a new extension to the Forth and Clyde Canal, and near River Carron, in The Helix, a new parkland project built to connect 16 communities in the Falkirk Council Area, Scotland.[2] The sculptures were designed by sculptor Andy Scott and were completed in October 2013.[3] The sculptures form a gateway at the eastern entrance to the Forth and Clyde canal, and the new canal extension built as part of The Helix land transformation project. The Kelpies are a monument to horse-powered heritage across Scotland.[4]
