The painting was an oil on canvas, and was housed at the Royal Palace of Turin.

The painting was shown by Cosola at the 1884 Circolo degli Artisti exhibition during which it was purchased by King Umberto I of Savoy for 450 liras.[1][2]
The painting depicted three women, probably three washerwomen, two of them intent on hanging out cloths in the sun, and the third one sitting mending.[1][3]
