El Frontal de la Seo de Urgel o de los Apóstoles es un frontal de altar de estilo románico expuesto en el Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña.[1] Procede de una iglesia del obispado de la Seo de Urgel y fue adquirida en 1905. Es una de las obras maestras de la colección de pintura sobre tabla del MNAC.[2]

Análisis Formal

Estilo

La obra es una representación de las más características del románico catalán, debido al cumplimiento de los principios estilísticos del románico, como son la simetría bilateral, la inexistencia de un fondo, la perspectiva jerárquica y la geometrización antinaturalista de las formas, como se puede observar en los pliegues de las ropas. También destaca por la calidad de la policromía. La obra muestra semejanzas, sobre todo en cuanto a los colores y las cenefas, al Frontal de altar de Ix, lo que indica que probablemente pudieron salir del mismo taller o autor.

The Altar frontal from La Seu d'Urgell or of The Apostles is a Romanesque altar frontal currently exhibited at the National Art Museum of Catalonia.[1] The work dates from the second quarter of the 12th century and comes from a church of the Bishop of La Seu d'Urgell and was acquired in 1905. It is one of the masterpieces of the collection of panel painting of the MNAC. The frontal, the item covering the front of the altar, stands out for the quality of its bright colours and because it illustrates some of the characteristics of composition in Romanesque art, such as bilateral symmetry, abstraction of the background, with no reference to space or context, and the unnatural geometrical treatment of form to be observed in the folds of the clothing. It also shows certain conventions of representation, such as so-called hierarchical perspective, which consists in representing the chief character in a larger size.[2]

Le Devant d'autel de la Seu d'Urgell ou des Apôtres est un devant d'autel de style roman exposé par le musée national d'Art de Catalogne à Barcelone[1]. Il date du second quart du XIIe siècle et provient d'une église du diocèse d'Urgell; il a été acheté en 1905. C'est un des chefs-d'œuvre de la collection de peinture sur bois du MNAC[2].
