L'Annonciation (ou La Vierge Marie) est une peinture sur panneau de l'artiste allemand Stefan Lochner. Elle est conservée au musée Wallraf-Richartz de Cologne.

Description

Il s’agit probablement des panneaux extérieurs d'un retable perdu. Celui de gauche montre la Vierge, plutôt conventionnelle, recevant la voix du Saint-Esprit, qui plane au-dessus d'elle sous la forme d'une colombe. Un vase derrière elle contient un lys. Ses vêtements blancs et la fleur représentent sa virginité[1]. Il semble influencé par des panneaux similaires de Jan van Eyck, L'Agneau Mystique de Gand.

Annunciation (or The Virgin Mary) is a panel painting by the German artist Stefan Lochner (c. 1410 – 1451), whose panels were probably conceived as outer wing for a lost altarpiece. It shows the virgin, rather conventionally receiving the voice of the holy spirit, who hovers above her in the form of a dove. A vase behind her holds a lily. Her white clothes and the flower represent her virginity.[1] It seems influenced by similar panels found in Jan van Eyck's Ghent Altarpiece.
