Richard Green FSA FRSA is an art curator and art critic.[1]


Biography


Green was Keeper of fine art at the Laing Art Gallery from 1971 to 1977.[1] One of his early acquisitions for Newcastle was Laus veneris by Edward Burne-Jones. In 1977 he became the curator of York Art Gallery, a post he held until 2003 when he left to become an independent art historian.[2] As curator at York Art Gallery, Green was present during the armed robbery of January 1999 in which staff were tied up and threatened, and over £700,000 of paintings were stolen.[2]

Green is an honorary visiting fellow in the Department of Art History at the University of York.[1] He was elected as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 2014.[3]
