Biografia

Jenny Saville è meglio nota per i suoi monumentali dipinti di corpi femminili. Per lei posa come modella l'attrice Loredana Bontempi. Attualmente lavora e vive tra Londra e Palermo.

Curiosità

• Le copertine degli album della band gallese Manic Street Preachers The Holy Bible e Journal for Plague Lovers raffigurano i dipinti Strategy (South Face/Front Face/North Face) del 1996 e Stare del 2005. In particolare la copertina di Journal for Plague Lovers che ritrae un bambino sfigurato è stata oggetto di controversie in Gran Bretagna: la catena di supermaket inglese Tesco ha censurato parzialmente la copertina nei propri centro commerciali perché considerata impressionante e disturbante per la clientela.[2]
• Il protagonista del romanzo La demolizione del Mammut di Giorgio Nisini è un appassionato cultore dei dipinti di Jenny Saville, che compaiono più volte nel corso della narrazione come oggetti carichi di oscuri e misteriosi significati.

Jennifer Anne Saville RA (born 1970)[1][2] is a contemporary British painter and an original member of the Young British Artists.[3] Saville works and lives in Oxford, England[4] and she is known for her large-scale painted depictions of nude women. Saville has been credited with originating a new and challenging method of painting the female nude and reinventing figure painting for contemporary art. Some paintings are small one foot by one foot paintings while other are large nine feet by seven feet paintings.[5] Monumental subjects come from pathology textbooks that she has studied that informed her on injury to bruise, burns, and deformity.[6] John gray commented: As I see it, Jenny Saville's work expresses a parallel project of reclaiming the body from personality. Saville worked with many models who under went cosmetic surgery to reshape a portion of their body. In doing that, she carputers "marks of personality for the flesh" and together embrace how we can be the writers of our own lives.[7]
