Thomas Sully (Horncastle, 1783 – Filadelfia, 1872) è stato un pittore statunitense.
Emigrato negli USA nel 1792, fu allievo di Benjamin West a Londra (1809). Svolse la sua attività per lo più a Philadelphia, ma nel 1837 tornò in patria per dipingere il ritratto di Vittoria d'Inghilterra . È citato per il suo stile pittorico realistico ma sfumato, da Edgar Allan Poe nel suo racconto Il ritratto ovale.

Thomas Sully (June 19, 1783 – November 5, 1872) was an portrait painter in the United States. Born in Great Britain, he lived most of his life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He painted in the style of Thomas Lawrence. His subjects included national political leaders such as United States presidents: Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson, Revolutionary War hero General Marquis de Lafayette, and many leading musicians and composers. In addition to portraits of wealthy patrons, he painted landscapes and historical pieces such as the 1819 The Passage of the Delaware. Thomas Sully, né le 9 juin 1783 et mort le 5 novembre 1872, est un artiste peintre américain, principalement connu pour ses portraits, comme ceux de John Quincy Adams, le marquis de La Fayette, la reine Victoria ou de Thomas Jefferson[2]. Entre 1801 et sa mort, il produisit 2 631 peintures répertoriées[3].
