Death on the Pale Horse is the title of several works created by the painter Benjamin West between 1783 and 1817.[1] The first of these is a drawing that West exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in London in 1784. The second is a painting from 1796 that West showed at the Academy that same year. The final work is a 25-foot wide painting that West exhibited in 1817 in a gallery on the street of Pall Mall, where he charged admission for visitors who wished to see it.[2] All three works are inspired by apocalyptic imagery from the book of Revelation. They are significant examples of the Sublime in British painting.[2]
