The Canal Saint-Martin is an 1872 painting by Alfred Sisley, now in the Musée d'Orsay, to which it was given in 1907 by Étienne Moreau-Nélaton.[1] The artist was living near the Canal Saint-Martin and the painting formed part of a series of four works showing the canal - another was View of the Canal Saint-Martin.[2] Sisley would have chosen the canal as the subject of a series of 4 canvases because it is an industrial infrastructure and it was close to it.[2]

Le Canal Saint-Martin est un tableau d'Alfred Sisley, qui fait partie des collections du musée d'Orsay. Il se trouvait auparavant au 2e étage dans la section 30 (Caillebotte-Degas-Morisot-Whistler) ; il est depuis 2011 au 5e étage, dans la salle 30. La peinture a été acquise en 1907 par donation d'Étienne Moreau-Nélaton[1]. Sisley aurait choisi le canal comme sujet d'une série de 4 toiles car il s'agit d'une infrastructure industrielle et qu'il en était proximité[2].
