The Dessert: Harmony in Red is a painting by French artist Henri Matisse, from 1908. It is considered by some critics to be Matisse's masterpiece.[1] This Fauvist painting follows the example set by Impressionism with the overall lack of a central focal point.[2]

The painting was commissioned as "Harmony in Blue," but Matisse was dissatisfied with the result, and so he painted it over with his preferred red.[1][3]
It is in the permanent collection of the Hermitage Museum.[4]

Armonía en rojo o La habitación roja es un óleo del artista Henri Matisse (1869-1954) de 1908. Se trata de una obra de grandes dimensiones –180'5 x 221– cm, y fue pintada por encargo del millonario ruso Sergei Shukin, coleccionista de la obra del pintor. Al parecer, Matisse pintó todo el fondo de color azul claro (como aún puede verse en los bordes), pero finalmente lo sobre-pintó de rojo intenso. Un año después Matisse pintaría Bodegón con mantel azul, que pudiera dar una idea aproximada de cómo era La habitación roja en su origen.[1][fr] La Desserte rouge
