Femme se baignant ou Femme se baignant dans une rivière est un tableau de Rembrandt datant de 1654 environ, exposé à la National Gallery de Londres, qui l'a acquise en 1831.

Description

Hendrickje Stoffels, qu'on imagine la maîtresse de Rembrandt, lui aurait servi de modèle. La toile la représente entrant en toute décontraction dans son bain[1].

L'œuvre a toujours été l'une des toiles de Rembrandt les plus appréciées. Elle est tendrement intimiste, et la pose est si spontanée qu'elle semble l'expression d'une expérience personnelle.

[en] A Woman Bathing in a Stream

Woman Bathing or A Woman Bathing in a Stream is a c.1654 painting by Rembrandt, now in the National Gallery, London, which acquired it in 1831. It was probably modelled on Rembrandt's partner Hendrickje Stoffels, and represents a woman in a vulnerable state, stepping into her bath.[1] Some scholars believe the painting is meant to represent the nymph Callisto, bathing apart from Diana's entourage.[2]
