Biografia

Oluchkuwu Oguibe ha conseguito gran parte dei suoi titoli di studio in Gran Bretagna dove ha portato a termine un PhD in storia dell'arte presso la University of London sotto la supervisione di John Picton con una tesi su Uzo Egonu[1]. Attualmente vive negli Stati Uniti e dirige l'Institute for African American Studies dell'università del Connecticut.

Nel 2017 ha vinto l'Arnold Bode Preis.

Attività

Olu Oguibe è artista, poeta e un ricercatore e studioso. In particolare il suo lavoro di ricerca si focalizza sull'arte contemporanea africana.

Opere

Ha esposto in alcune delle più note Kunsthalle Europee e Statunitensi tra cui: Whitney Museum of American Art; Whitechapel Gallery and the Barbican Center, London; Migros Museum, Zurich; the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht, inoltre si possono citare Havana, Busan, Johannesburg biennials, recentemente ha partecipato alla Biennale di Venezia 2007. Altri installazioni a carattere pubblico sono presenti nelle città tedesche, coreane e Giapponesi

Olu Oguibe auch Olu Oluchukwu (* 14. Oktober 1964 in Aba (Nigeria)[1] ist ein nigerianisch-amerikanischer Dichter, Kulturwissenschaftler, Kurator[2] und Konzeptkünstler. Der Teilnehmer der documenta 14 wurde 2017 mit dem Arnold-Bode-Preis[3] der Stadt Kassel ausgezeichnet.

Olu Oguibe (born 14 October 1964) is a Nigerian-born American artist and academic.[1] Professor of Art and African-American Studies at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Oguibe is a senior fellow of the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at the New School, New York City, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.[2] He is also an art historian, art curator, and leading contributor to post-colonial theory and new information technology studies.[3][4] Oguibe is also known to be a well respected scholar and historian of contemporary African and African American art[5] and was honoured with the State of Connecticut Governor's Arts Award for excellence and lifetime achievement on 15 June 2013.[6]
