History
The memorial was erected in 1938 to honor group members between 1847 and 1869.[1] Steffen Thomas designed the monument.[1][2] The memorial consists of a large granite boulder affixed with bronze plaques. The plaque on one side shows a woman working at a spinning wheel.[2] The memorial is located just north of the park's 14th Street entrance.[3]
