La Birth of the New World (Nascita del Nuovo Mondo), chiamata anche La Estatua de Colòn (La Statua di Colombo), è una statua inaugurata nel 2016 ad Arecibo (Porto Rico) e con 110 m di altezza è una delle più alte statue del mondo.

Storia

La costruzione sarebbe dovuta terminare nel 1992 per commemorare i 500 anni dalla scoperta dell'America ed erano state proposte diverse città, tra le quali New York, Boston e Miami. È stato scelto Porto Rico perché luogo dello sbarco di Cristoforo Colombo. Fa parte di un ambizioso progetto comprendente anche alberghi e ristoranti, il cui completamento è previsto per il 2020.[1][2]

Die Geburt einer neuen Welt (im Original La Estatua de Colón oder Columbus’ Statue) ist eine 110 Meter hohe Bronzeskulptur an der Atlantikküste von Arecibo in Puerto Rico. Sie wurde vom Bildhauer Surab Zereteli erschaffen und war mit ihrer Fertigstellung im Jahr 2016 die höchste Skulptur Nordamerikas[1], somit um Einiges größer als die 66 Meter hohe Statue des Chimalli-Kriegers im mexikanischen Chimalhuacán.

The Birth of the New World (colloquially known as La Estatua de Colón or Columbus' Statue) is a 360 foot (110 m) bronze sculpture located on the Atlantic coastline of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. When completed in 2016, it became the tallest sculpture in North America,[1] surpassing Mexico's Guerrero Chimalli, which measures 200 feet (61 m) including its base. After being imported to Puerto Rico, there were plans for it to be erected in Cataño. After being moved to Mayagüez and facing further delays, Birth of the New World was assembled at its current location.
