Albert Eckhout (1610 – 1665) è stato un pittore olandese.
Biografia
È conosciuto per essere stato uno dei primi europei a dipingere immagini del "Nuovo mondo". Nel 1636 partì dai Paesi Bassi alla volta della colonia americana situata in Brasile, invitato dal governatore Maurizio di Nassau. Lì prese a dipingere principalmente ritratti di nativi sudamericani, schiavi e mulatti (ad esempio Donna nera con bambino) assieme a numerose nature morte contenenti flora, frutta e verdura locali. Ci ha lasciato anche una serie di dipinti raffiguranti la fauna amazzonica, con una particolare attenzione verso gli uccelli. La maggior parte delle sue opere si trova al Museo nazionale danese di Copenaghen.
Nella storia dell'arte è riconducibile al Barocco.
Il suo nome è stato dato ad un asteroide della fascia principale, 11241 Eckhout, scoperto il 24 settembre 1960 da Cornelis Johannes van Houten, Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld e Tom Gehrels. La fascia principale degli asteroidi si trova tra le orbite di Marte e Giove.

Albert Eckhout (c.1610–1665) was a Dutch portrait and still life painter. Eckhout, the son of Albert Eckhourt and Marryen Roeleffs, was born in Groningen, but his training as an artist and early career are unknown. A majority of the works attributed to him are unsigned. He was among the first European artists to paint scenes from the New World. He was in the entourage of the Dutch governor-general of Brazil, Johan Maurits, Prince of Nassau-Siegen, who took him and fellow painter Frans Post to Dutch Brazil to have them record the country's landscape, inhabitants, flora and fauna.[1] Eckhout is also famous for his still-life paintings of Brazilian fruits and vegetables.
