Dance in the City is a painting by French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir.[1] The 1883 work is in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay.[2] The dancers are model and artist Suzanne Valadon and Renoir's friend Paul Auguste Lhôte.[2][3]

This work, along with companion pieces Dance in the Country and Dance at Bougival, was produced to order for the art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. All three were painted in 1883 featuring two people dancing in different environments (although the woman in Dance in the Country was modelled by Aline Charigot, later Renoir's wife).[4]

Danse à la ville est une peinture à l'huile sur toile réalisée en 1883 par le peintre français Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Ses dimensions sont de 180 × 90 cm. La toile constitue le pendant de Danse à la campagne exposé à côté au musée d'Orsay à Paris. Les deux tableaux représentent deux aspects différents, sinon opposés, de la danse. À l'élégante retenue des danseurs urbains, à la froideur du salon où ils évoluent, s'oppose la gaieté de la danse campagnarde en plein air.
