The Portrait of Doña Antonia Zárate is the source for the 1810–11 portrait of her by Goya or his studio.

In 1900 it was put on show in Madrid and stated to be owned by Doña Adelaida Gil y Zárate. It was bought in London by Sir Otto Beit, who exhibited it at Russborough House and bequeathed it to his son Sir Alfred Beit. It was stolen from Russborough House in 1974 and 1986. A year after the second robbery it was nominally donated by Beit to the National Gallery of Ireland,[1] though it was only recovered from the thieves in 1993.[2][3]

Le Portrait de Doña Antonia Zárate est un portrait de l'actrice Antonia Zárate peint en 1805 par Francisco de Goya. Il a probablement été produit par Goya dans son atelier, où un inventaire de 1812 le mentionnait déjà. La femme porte une robe de soie noire de style Empire, alors à la mode en Espagne, avec ses bras couverts par des gants longs blancs, ses mains tenant un éventail fermé et une mantille sur la tête et les épaules[1]. La peinture peut aussi avoir été à l'origine du portrait de 1811, effectué par Goya ou son atelier, et conservé au Musée de l'Ermitage à Saint-Pétersbourg.
